“…this includes the WEAC.”

February 19, 2009

Aaron M. Rodriguez, writing at The Hispanic Conservative:

The key to (Rose) Fernandez’ primary victory lies in her tenacious reputation of being strong advocate for parents. Her constituency knows that she is willing to lock horns with any entity or special interest group that wants to restrict parental choice. And yes, this includes the WEAC.

I particularly like the grammatically correct “the WEAC.” WEAC, standing for Wisconsin Education Association Council, is a “the.” Not “Wisconsin Education Association Council,” as though it’s just somebody you know. “Bob.” It’s a thing. The.

I have no idea why that’s what struck me most about Rodriguez’ post. Maybe because just calling them WEAC, as I always have, instead of “the” WEAC, gives the WEAC individualism. What do you call it…personification.

“The” WEAC is like “the” chair.

Um…not that “the” Hispanic Conservative is like a chair. Nor is the WEAC, of course. It’s just grammatical. And I guess since the WEAC is made up of teachers, we should try to be more grammatical.

Anyway, Rodriguez is also right about why conservatives supported Rose Fernandez in the race for DPI Superintendent. She supports parental choice, while the educracy seems bent on making every child a ward of the state.

Every blog deserves a great post, and that was one.
