Regarding the practical application of Rules 1, 2 and 5; and a blogger named “Clever.”

March 20, 2009

Maybe I’m naïve. Just a poor lonely waif bobbing aimlessly through the unfathomable vastness of the blogosphere. Maybe this sort of thing really isn’t that big a deal – it only looks like a big deal, because I am so young and inexperienced and green.

Or maybe there’s only one thing to say:

In her first 15 days of blogging, fellow RSM-ite Suzanna Logan has passed 8,000 hits.

We’ve had a…well, somewhat smaller number of hits over here. In a…well…a somewhat larger number of days.

First reaction: envy, because I am an imperfect person. Second reaction: the blogosphere is not a zero-sum game. Third reaction: read every single post to see what she’s doing right.

I’m tempted to mention that Suzanna has a slight advantage over me (see picture). See, where I have to go out of my way to comply with RSM’s Rule #5, she can just put her own picture in her profile.

And yet, she doesn’t rest on that advantage. She’s clearly mastered the tactic of the attention-grabbing headline, with posts like Craigslist, Casual Encounters, Cavemen, and Capitalism, and Check Out Obama’s Junk. She blogs about Megyn Kelly’s legs (while realizing that the likely-more-common misspelling Megan Kelly’s legs might bring in more traffic) and Miss Virginia Tara Wheeler.

In other words, she’s got this blogging thing down. Plus, she writes stuff like:

Have the taunting kiddos mauled by bears.

As is written in the Tome of Blogdom (or will be someday), the test of good writing is whether I – TrogloPundit – wish I’d thought to write it myself.

In the spirit of the Five Rules, I’ll be letting Suzanna know that I’m writing all these really nice things about her, hoping that some of that 533 hits per day (and growing) might wear off on me. Unfortunately, women like her are used to being shamelessly begged, so we’ll just have to see.

Congratulations!
