It isn’t every blogger who could get me to read every word of a 4,000+ word essay…
…but I read every word of this one by R.S. McCain. I want to be him when I grow up now. Except taller.
This really is impressive. Exceptional observations about politics, and history, and the sturm and drang of personal ambition and political power.
I’ll sum up: Reagan, et. al., might be conservative heroes, but conservative strength lies with the concept of economic liberty, not with any single person or office.
He takes a while to get there, but it’s worth it. Every. Single. Word.
Bonus: R.S. links liberally to Friedrich Hayek’s “The Road to Serfdom,” which everybody should read (here’s a link to the Mises Institute’s cartoon version – you want the full version, go to the library).
He also links to and recommends Leonard E. Reed’s “I, Pencil,” which I’d read once before but had forgotten. I’ve read at least twice and haven’t forgotten Frederic Bastiat’s “Petition of the Candlemakers,” which is another thing everybody should read.
You should probably get started now.

Yeah, I’m just finishing TRTS. I would like to do a series of posts quoting that book. It’s about twice as good as Atlas Shrugged.
