Tax Day Tea Party media coverage
The good news is: there was media coverage of the Madison Tea Party yesterday. More good news: it wasn’t all that bad.
We didn’t have a CNN here, at least.
On the other hand, it wasn’t like coverage of an anti-war rally. Or of an environmental rally. Or an illegal immigrant rally. Or a pay-for-my-health-care rally. But, well, we can’t all be liberal darlings, can we?
Newspapers:
- The Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times (online only) both ran the same story – a little interview-light, opposition-heavy, I thought (hey, I don’t mind hearing what the other side says, but the story was about our rally, right?).
- The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s story was better, in my opinion.
On to TV:
- The best coverage, I thought, came from NBC 15 , despite the opening statement about whether the rally “will really have an impact.” Lots of interviews, lots of clips, and they let the rally-ers themselves answer the question of whether (and when – 2010!) it will have an impact.
- Channel 3000 was also very good, and longer, although I thought they got a little cynical and opposition-talking-point near the end (link leads directly to video).
- WKOW 27 was worst of the three. Short, quick, one interview…maybe I’m being too critical, but the anchor called the protest a “so-called tea party” right off the bat. Dead giveaway.
From the Blogosphere’o'Cheese:
- Steve Eggleston at No Runny Eggs has a roundup. Steve was the stud of the Tax Day Tea Parties yesterday, attending both Madison’s and Appleton’s, too (that report by Berry Laker).
- I didn’t see Steve, but did run into Fred Dooley, who assured me that my declining presence in MRQ has nothing whatsoever to do with any possible past slight on my part – I’m just not interesting enough is all. Anyway, he’s got pictures and some thoughts.
- Also ran into Grumps from The Happy Circumstance – a liberal, with whom I most often get along. He’s got pics of some of the more wince-inducing signs from the protest.
- Roland Melnick from Badger Blogger was there, and we might have been standing right next to each other taking pictures without knowing it.
- Asian Badger was there, too, and so was Christian Schneider. Naturally, I didn’t run into either of them.
Next time, I’m going to announce a pre-arranged meeting place so we can all say hi.

Sorry we missed you…but glad you were there. Thanks for the round-up summary.
It was fun, wasn’t it?
