Sometime yesterday, TrogloPundit passed 20,000 visitors.

May 2, 2009

(Note: those of you who click around without actually reading anything longer than the Surgeon General’s warning on that pack of smokes in your pocket should at least skip down to the end of this post. There’s something important there.)

In the beginning, TrogloPundit was born.

Fifty-eight days later, TrogloPundit passed 10,000 hits.

A mere fifteen days later, 20,000 hits. The second ten thousand took about one quarter as long as the first ten thousand.

Um…waitaminute…that’s hit growth by a factor of four…that means, if I’m going to continue at that rate, I need my 30,000th hit by…

…Tuesday.

[panic setting in…frantic pacing, hyperventilating, hiding in fetal position in the back corner under the kitchen table muttering link, damn all of you, LINK!

…deep breathing exercises begun…large tumbler of brandy…calm being restored…]

Sorry. Back now.

Two weeks-ish ago, I calculated that The Trog had attracted an average of 203 hits per day. As of midnight Friday, that number had increased to 277 per day. I am now averaging enough to surpass 100,000 hits by the end of my first year.

Yay!

Of course, this means that, if I’m to surpass one million hits in my first year, I have to increase my hit count not by a factor of four, but by a factor of ten.

[hyperventilating…deep breathing…another brandy…]

Better wrap this up soon. It’s only 3 o’clock. Too early to send the kids out for more brandy.

I have a great many people to thank for all of this – many smaller bloggers and a few bigger ones have linked, which has led to much traffic. Many of you are clicking hereward without the aid of external linkage, and may I say that you people have exquisite taste.

Many of you are arriving via searches for Yuri Fujikawa or the swine flew (mine!). Welcome and bienvenido.

Of course this post wouldn’t be complete without mentioning R.S. McCain, who has spread the wisdom of his Five Rules throughout the blogosphere and, lo, it was good, and much traffic was and will continue to be had.

In order to properly thank you all, and to commemorate this once-in-a-lifetime event (we’ll never pass 20,000 hits again, you know), I hereby declare If You Send It, Trog Will Link It Week. Got a post you want linked? Email it to me, and linked it shall be.

That’s right, folks. All week long. TrogloLanches, for the asking.

Can I take credit for at least a few hundred of those hits? I’m kind of bored over here.

I said you were a genius!

Congrat’s and thanks – I’m going to take full advantage and ask for links all week.

Can you handle the awesomeness of MidnightBlue??

    :)

Don’t know if ‘awesomeness’ is a legit word, but it works…

    Hey, congrats.

If they’re not returning unique visitors, what’s the point?

Mike – you’d better be able to take credit for a few hundred of them. If not, then dammit, click more!

    Thanks Jill!

Skye – if awesomeness isn’t a word, it should be. And I don’t know if I can handle it, but I’m willing to give it a shot.

    Thanks John!

Elliot – a certain percentage of visitors will always be non-returning random clicks. Nothing wrong with that.

Of course, but for me those folks don’t really “count.” I’ve gotten thousands of google hits for posting cheesecake pics, but those hits don’t help me build a readership. You’re a brilliant writer. You deserve an audience, not just a succession of one-click stands. ;)

“It’s only 3 o’clock. Too early to send the kids out for more brandy.”

It’s because of things like this that I will continue to read (and link) you, which I will find reason to do tomorrow. I’m sure it won’t be hard.

    Trog, you brilliant bastard!
