On Rule #2, funks, “hottest blogger” lists, and the sincerest form of flattery

What a great week this turned out to be.

Yeah, I admit, I was in a little bit of a funk. Wasn’t being named to any of those “hottest right-wing blogger” lists, y’know.

But then: bam! John Hawkins puts The Trog on his Top 40 list. And then: bam! Carol just happens to whip up the single most powerful and moving piece of computer art ever seen by man.

Plus, traffic is up. Still nowhere near those fabled million-hit levels, but pretty damned gratifying. I’ve even given up my “biggest small blogger you ever met” tagline.

For now.

So let’s get on with the Rule 2, because I have a lot of people to thank for all this. And hey, you readers who don’t blog yourselves but who are stopping by here, don’t think I’m forgetting about you!

Oh, wait, before we start: there are two ways that a certain person could take what I’m about to do:

• bug his eyes out and scream: “That asshole stole my idea!”

Or:

• realize that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Fred Dooley, proprietor of Real Debate Wisconsin, has a weekly feature called More Monday Random Quotes (MRQ). If you’ve read my Bloviating Troglodyte page, then you know Fred and MRQ had a large part in the eventual creation of this blog.

Yes, humankind owes Fred a great deal.

MRQ is one of my favorite things in the Blogosphere’o'Cheese, if not the blogosphere as a whole. Thus, I’m either stealing his idea, or flattering him more sincerely than is really appropriate, considering the difference between our ages and our hairlines.

I guess I could have emailed him earlier to ask him what he’d think, but, well, too late now.

I may continue in this vein in future weeks, depending on how much work it is. And on whether the restraining order arrives.
