Forbes Magazine has a pictorial about women in Iran who were already leaders, or who are becoming leaders due to all the recent unpleasantness there.
Along with all other Iranian female performers, Googoosh, whose given name is Fargheh Atashin, was banned from singing when Khoumeni took over Iran in 1979. Since leaving the country in 2000, her following has only grown. A song released in reaction to recent events asks fellow Iranian ex-patriots whether they have forgotten about their nation since the revolution. The song, titled “Man Hamoon Iranam,” or “I am the same Iran,” received some 46,000 YouTube hits after one day.
