Doyle won’t run in 2010?
Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle has told associates he will announce this week that he won’t seek a third term in 2010, POLITICO has learned.
WisPolitics has a little more on the same story.
We Wisconsin political hacks and junkies have been speculating about this ever since President Obama was elected: whether or not Doyle would even serve out the rest of his term, or would go ahead and take an administration job. Head of the Peace Corps was the last rumor I heard.
Anyway, we’ll wait for this announcement next week and see.
Doyle bowing out is both good and bad news for Republicans – on the one hand, Doyle’s proven to be a remarkable candidate. He’s flip-flopped on issue after issue, but still won an impressive victory against Rep. Mark Green in 2006.
Granted, 2006 was a really good year for Democrats. But still, you could see that his campaign was kicking ass.
On the other hand, those flip-flops are starting to add up. Especially his tax increases this year, after he said in 2003 that he would not raise taxes because the economy was so bad, and higher taxes would only make things worse. Doyle was going to face a far steeper path to re-election this time, I think.
So. Mixed bag.
Both stories are listing four possible contenders for the Democratic nomination: Rep. Ron Kind; Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett; State Senator Jon Erpenbach; and Lieutenant Governor Barbara Lawton. I have no insight into who may or may not run, and who has the better chance to win. I sure wish Rep. Tammy Baldwin would take a shot at it, though.

Looks like Doyle and Granholm have been swapping notes from across the pond. She said the same thing about taxes in 2006, only to raise them by $2 billion in 2007 and is now proposing another $1 billion hike. Don’t get me started on flip flops!
I am not a Candidate for Governor. I do not intend to seek the Governorship. I remain a Candidate for the Democratic nomination for the United States Senate seat up in 2012.
