“A PBS mind in a Fox News world”
I saw that bumper sticker while I was driving into work this morning.
Let’s assume, first of all, that this indicates that the driver is a liberal. Pretty safe, I’d say. Let’s assume further that this implies superiority: PBS is better than Fox News. And why wouldn’t it imply that?
Questions, then:
- It’s a Fox News world, even though Obama and the Democrats are in charge across the board? Even though international polling showed vast support for Obama?
- If so, doesn’t it follow that a Fox News world elected the most liberal government the United States has ever had?
- And if so, then isn’t this driver implying that the liberal majority that elected Obama is inferior to her?
Or maybe it’s just a really old bumper sticker and she’s too lazy to peel it off. Hey, I still see Gore/Edwards stickers, sometimes.
Alternative thought:
If conservatives would use more furry puppets, this woman might be a conservative.

that bumper sticker is most likely an old one. i first saw it years ago.
The phrase implies that PBS stands for thoughtful intelligence and Fox New stands for vapid stupidity.
I created that bumper sticker and yes it was meant to imply FOX News is for vapid stupidity.
It’s precisely the intellectual arrogance of the PBS mind that created the blind attitude of King George III. Independent rugged colonists could not stomach it. So they wrote the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson said, “Errors of opinion may be tolerated where reason is left free to combat it.” Those who too quickly declare their opponents vapid may spend too much time admiring their mirrors.
