Looks like it’s time to coin a new phrase

September 17, 2009

Via Facebook, Kate “Ol’ Broad” Wagner asks:

I’m wondering why we keep calling them (the media) “main stream”. It’s increasingly apparent they aren’t main stream, nor, are they media. :/

Well, they are “media.” They’re just not the media anymore.

But still: okee doke. I’ve seen the phrase “legacy media” in the past, but that seems complimentary. How about the formerly mainstream media. Or…the used-to-be mainstream media?

The niche-stream media?

I call the left the cult of the counterculture. All cults get to name themselves, like heavens gate or people’s temple so they can call themselves mainstream in that way.The only place they are truly mainstream is a faculty meeting at UC Berkeley.

If you’ve ever worked with legacy software, believe you me, you won’t think that legacy media sounds complimentary.
