Defining success down. Way, way down.
Jonathan Chait in The New Republic:
The biggest story in health care reform this year has not been the town hall meetings, or President Obama’s big speech on health care. It’s that the Senate Democrats have decided they’re going to pass a bill.
A bill. A bill. That’s the plan. To pass a bill.
What bill? Dunno. But we’re gonna pass one. The American people demand it!
Now: I don’t know Jonathan Chait from the flattened chocolate chip cookie my teenaged son pulled out of his back jeans pocket earlier today, but it’ll be fun to see whether he’s satisfied when the “a bill” Senate Democrats pass (hip hip…hoorah!) is generally worthless from a Socialist Utopian point of view.
Via Memeorandum.
Oh, and:
Key health care vote to be delayed, sources say
WASHINGTON (CNN) — A key congressional committee vote on health care reform, originally expected as early as Tuesday, is now likely to be pushed back several days, according to two Democratic staffers.
But that shouldn’t prevent Senate Democrats from reaching their lofty goal of “passing a bill.”
