Too bad the Norwegian Nobel Committee wasn’t in charge of handing out the Olympics

October 9, 2009

Having accomplished nothing, President Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize.

OSLO – President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday in a stunning decision designed to encourage his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms, ease tensions with the Muslim world and stress diplomacy and cooperation rather than unilateralism.

Not to be sarcastic or anything, but a Pulitzer would really help encourage my initiative to produce more great prose. I mean, I may not have produced any great prose yet. Good prose, maybe, or at least adequate prose, peppered with lot of ho-hum prose. I’m just saying. Giving me the Pulitzer would really encourage me.

That SNL skit is looking even funnier today.

I loved this part of the story:

The Norwegian Nobel Committee decided not to inform Obama before the announcement because it didn’t want to wake him up, committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland said.

“Waking up a president in the middle of the night, this isn’t really something you do,” Jagland said.

Even they agreed with Hillary on that one.

This is gonna be on top of Memeorandum all day long today.

UPDATE - Via Pundette (thanks for the link, Jill!), Rush Limbaugh said:

“…with this ‘award’ the elites of the world are urging Obama…to not do the surge in Afghanistan, not take action against Iran and its nuclear program and to basically continue his intentions to emasculate the United States.”

Wouldn’t it be sweet if, in the next few weeks, Obama goes all John Wayne on those countries? Just does a full Dubya? Increases troop levels in Afghanistan, announces readiness to attack Iran’s nuke sites, etc.?

Yeah, that would be sweet.

UPDATE II - Fred Dooley at Real Debate Wisconsin writes:

An interesting factoid.

The deadline for being nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize is Feb. 1.

It’s true. I checked. Obama was sworn in as President on January 20 – twelve days before the deadline. What the hell did they nominate him for? Running a great campaign?

Who, exactly, nominated him? The world demands an answer!

UPDATE III - Wow:

“The Republican Party has thrown in its lot with the terrorists – the Taliban and Hamas this morning – in criticizing the President for receiving the Nobel Peace prize,” DNC communications director Brad Woodhouse told POLITICO.

That’s also via Memeorandum.

You gotta admire that Brad Woodhouse. Even circus contortionists stare at him with their mouths wide open.

And one more thing: will you look at Memeorandum right now? It’s like the internet passed a hot coal while wearing spandex biker shorts and oven mitts.

There’s always hope, Lance. Look at me: several years ago, I was in your exact situation. And look at me now [although, I also had good looks going for me].
