I’m all for sacrificing for the cause, but…give up football?

October 15, 2009

Why don’t we just bend right over and let the Commies have America, while we’re at it?

Okay, that might be a little overwrought, but…well, come on:

Since Roger Goodell wants to bend over for Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and the other bigots and race-baiters among the sportswriter community by shafting Rush Limbaugh, we ought to return the favor by punting the NFL this season.

I have cancelled my DirecTV NFL Sunday Ticket package (including the Supercast). I will not watch ONE MINUTE of NFL games or coverage this season—including the Super Bowl.

And I challenge you to join me.

That’s MoltenThought.blogspot.com.

Now, look. I like Rush Limbaugh. I don’t listen to him much, because I can’t concentrate on work with talk radio on, but I’ve listened to him plenty in the past, and I like him, and I think he’s an important member – one of the Nine Pirate Captains, even – of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.

But…give up football? I don’t think so. I’ve got my price, and my price is five NFL games per week. More, once the college season is over.

UPDATE – I should clarify: five NFL games per week is my price for not making a great and in all probability futile gesture in support of Rush and in opposition to the race baiters who have defamed him.

For NFL Sunday Ticket (which I can’t afford, and even if I could I just signed a contract with Dish Network), I might be willing to defame him myself.

Via Instapundit and Memeorandum.

UPDATE - Smitty, a.k.a. “The Other Smith,” hates the NFL. NTTAWWT. Indeed, he’s also a Navy man. NTTAWWT, IYKWIMAITYD.

True, the college game. I love the college game. I’m watching one right now, as a matter of fact. But the pro game – the resurgence of Brett Favre (soon to be the NFL’s all-time fumbles leader); the unexpected emergence of Denver and Cincinnati. David Tyree’s spectacular catch in Superbowl XLII. Larry FitzGerald’s spectacular catch in Superbowl XLIII. The exuberance of rookie QB Mark Sanchez. The humiliation of veteran owner Jerry Jones. Lombardi, Halas, Cosell. Ray Lewis’ big hit on Darren Sproles to beat the Chargers in Week 2. Ray Lewis’ late hit on Chad Ochocinco in Week 5 to help the Ravens lose to the Bengals in Week 5.

Football, man. I love football. Give up the NFL because I’ve still got the college game? Ask me to give up one kid, because I’ve still got three more.

Betcha Limbaugh would agree with me.

And one more thing: amphibian? What are you, Keith Olbermann?

I gave up the Ticket after last season. Too expensive. I used to spend my Sundays from breakfast through dessert watching all the games I could. I’m a Saints fan in the Bay Area, and even though they’re having a great season, and we have one pro team in teh Bay Area, I’m willing to suffer that. I bought in when it was $129/season, now it’s $300 plus. I won’t boycott the games, but I won’t support them very much either.

Pete Rozell wouldn’t have stood up for all this hoopla. But Goodell did bend over for Jesse, Al, etc. and I just shake my head.

Nobody is saying “Give Up Football”, they’re saying punt the NFL.
