Heck, that’s nothin’. In a few more years, they’ll be spending more than that just tracking down fraudulent ObamaCare payments.
ABC News: Jobs ‘Saved or Created’ in Congressional Districts That Don’t Exist
Here’s a stimulus success story: In Arizona’s 9th Congressional District, 30 jobs have been saved or created with just $761,420 in federal stimulus spending. At least that’s what the website set up by the Obama Administration to track the $787 billion stimulus says.
There’s one problem, though: There is no 9th Congressional District in Arizona; the state has only eight Congressional Districts.
There’s no 86th Congressional District in Arizona either, but the government’s recovery.gov Web site says $34 million in stimulus money has been spent there.
That amused me, especially considering that it comes only days after this story broke:
WASHINGTON — The government paid more than $47 billion in questionable Medicare claims including medical treatment showing little relation to a patient’s condition, wasting taxpayer dollars at a rate nearly three times the previous year.
Excerpts of a new federal report, obtained by The Associated Press, show a dramatic increase in improper payments in the $440 billion Medicare program that has been cited by government auditors as a high risk for fraud and waste for 20 years.
If you’ll do the math, you’ll find that the “questionable claims” account for over ten percent of total Medicare spending. So why should we care about a few dozen million dollars being spent in non-existent places?
Down the rabbit hole!
