Right Wing News: the 40 best political quotes of 2009
John Hawkins has the list. Here’s the link. My favorites:
24) Here’s the question that puzzles me: why do so many people who view politics as a dismal parade, and hold such a low opinion of politicians, seem so willing to entertain massive expansions of the government? What do they think is going to happen to the amount of politics infusing their lives, if the government nationalizes a few more industries, and racks up a couple trillion more in deficit spending? — Dr. Zero
Damned fine question. And:
8) The government competes in the private sector the way an alligator competes with a duck. — Mike Pence
Damned fine metaphor.
Several luminaries made the list more than once: Mark Steyn, Ann Coulter, and Sarah Palin all make dual appearances, while Thomas Sowell (one of my favorite columnists) clocks in a post-high five times.
I suppose that’s why John couldn’t spare any room for…y’know…this:
Gore is not only out on a limb, he’s standing tippy-toe on the very end, wildly flapping his arms and hoping Newton was wrong. And Yglesias is out there with him.
Or this:
Personally, I like “international trespassers.” That seems accurate, doesn’t it? You come home to find somebody rooting through your refrigerator, camped out on your couch. He’s not an “illegal visitor,” is he? An “illegal entrant?” No, he’s a trespasser.
Illegal immigrants are really just that: trespassers. International trespassers.
Or this:
Neonatal intensive care. That means these babies are dead babies, unless they find an open bed. Canada didn’t have them, the U.S. did. Let’s all take just a moment to ask ourselves why.
Well, I don’t mind getting bumped by Dr. Sowell. And there’s always 2010.
