I wonder what the storyline would be if Romney had thrown a punch?

February 15, 2010

It’d be getting a lot wider play, I’ll bet.

Via Malkin, Romney in air rage scare:

Republican politician Mitt Romney was physically threatened by a violent passenger on an Air Canada flight leaving Vancouver this morning.

Mr. Romney, who has been in Vancouver since Friday for the Olympic Winter Games, did not respond to the attack. Instead, he allowed the airline crew to deal with the incident, according to his spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom.

Mr. Romney, 62, and his wife, Ann, were sitting in Row 15 of the economy section of the Embrarer 190 airplane, waiting for the plane to take off when the incident happened.

The man sitting in front of Mr. Romney’s wife dropped his seat back and when Mr. Romney asked him to move it upright for takeoff, the man became “physically violent.” Another report said that the man tried to strike Mr. Romney.

Can you believe this? They were sitting in the economy section.

Could it possibly be that they can’t afford more? Doubtful. Did the airline simply have nothing else? Possible, I suppose. Or are the Romneys trying to look common-man-ish? Or, flipping that coin, trying to avoid looking elitist?

And, if so, does that impress? Or do we want our leaders – or our wannabe leaders – to look…maybe not elitist, but at least somewhat elite? Don’t we want a president who’s at home in first class?

I do.

Romney’s got some ‘splaining to do on that whole RomneyCare thing before I’ll consider supporting his presidential bid. But, geez, Mitt, you’re worried about criticism for flying first class? At least treat your wife to first class. It was Valentine’s Day just a day ago, after all.
