“Proudly ungovernable,” one might say, “since 1776.”
Over at And So it Goes in Shreveport, Pat has a long piece of research on Dr. Donald Berwick, President Obama’s appointee to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
One might expect Pat to be unimpressed with an Obama appointee. In this case, at least, one would be right.
In the QSHC article, Berwick also said that one advantage of the UK system is that “the UK has people in charge of its health care — people with the clear duty and much of the authority to take on the challenge of changing the system as a whole. The US does not. When it comes to health care as a nation, the US is leaderless.”
Proudly ungovernable, one might say.
I’ll pull one more quote:
“The more I have studied it, the more I believe that less discretion for doctors would improve patient safety.” He then looks down. “Doctors will hate me for saying that.”
These statements should be thoroughly examined during any confirmation hearings. Thoroughly.

“Doctors will hate me for saying that.”
So will patients.
But everybody ASIDE from doctors and their patients are behind this 100 percent…
