Another Democrat stronghold falls:
I lived in Hawaii for two years, and watched the 1994 midterms there. Democrats, Democrats, Democrats. A Republican has about as much chance of winning in Hawaii as a Tea Partier has of getting a fair shake on MSNBC.
Republican Charles Djou emerged victorious tonight in the special election to fill Hawaii’s vacancy in Congress, giving Hawaii its first GOP member of Congress in 20 years.
It doesn’t mean much, really. This was a special election, with the regular election still upcoming in November. Odds are slim.
Plus, the special election was a one-off: everybody on a single ballot regardless of party; plurality takes all. Two Democrats split nearly 60% of the vote. Djou won with slightly under 40%.
Still. Sweet.
