Indy 500 update: Danica Patrick finished 6th

June 1, 2010

ESPN:

Patrick was initially classified in fifth place, but it was later established that she and two other drivers passed her teammate Andretti after the caution light came on during the 199th lap of the race. Andretti was awarded third place, ahead of Alex Lloyd, Scott Dixon and Patrick.

So she gets knocked back one place. I’d call it sexism Danicism, except that two male drivers were also pushed back a spot. Although…it could be that race officials are so anti-woman that they’re willing to hurt two male drivers if it also means hurting a female one. Y’know, because it’s more important to keep the skirts in their place.

And by the way, here’s video of that crash I mentioned in my earlier post:

Danica’s in the green car right behind the crash – you can see just how close she came.

Oh, um…both of those drivers are okay. Both hurt – the driver whose car went into the air has a broken leg and at least one fractured vertebrae, but should be back racing in 3 months. The driver whose car stayed on the ground hurt his thumb. Danica Patrick was uninjured.

In other attractive female news, a Ukrainian boxer won a fight:

GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP)—Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine defended his WBC heavyweight championship belt on Saturday night with a 10th round knockout of Albert Sosnowski of Poland.

Klitschko improved his record to 42-2 (38 KOs) after the ring referee called the 12-round bout following a left-right combination to Sosnowski’s head at the 2 minute 30 second mark of the 10th round.

That’s Vitali Klitschko, whose brother Wladimir is also a champion heavyweight boxer, and who is better known around these parts as Hayden Panettiere’s boyfriend:

Yeah, that’s kind of a stretch for an excuse to post a picture, but what the hell.
