Bush lied…again!
Afghanistan. The good war, right? Yeah, right. Here we all thought – because President Bush told us – that our troops were in Afghanistan because the Taliban was in cahoots with Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden. They’re terrorist-supporting bastards, and in President Bush’s more cerebral successor’s words: that’s how we know whose ass to kick.
But wait, that’s not why we’re in Afghanistan:
The United States has discovered nearly $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits in Afghanistan, far beyond any previously known reserves and enough to fundamentally alter the Afghan economy and perhaps the Afghan war itself, according to senior American government officials.
Yeah, we just happened to stumble across that. I’m sure.
Let me take a moment to inform you all that if you don’t notice the sarcastic and ironic nature of this post, and if you comment calling me a Lefty or some such nonsense, I will take the opportunity to mock you.
Naturally, people like this guy are already rationalizing our imperialistic invasion and oppression of Afghanistan’s peace-loving warlords:
Exploitation of Afghan mineral wealth is clearly in the U.S. interest. We should begin immediately to secure favorable development contracts, using all our leverage with the Karzai government. .. If we do not, other countries such as China will surely take advantage of the situation and leave us behind.

Bush Lied, multinational conglomerates with mining subsidiaries negotiated deals enriching Afghani tribes! No blood for mineral extraction rights!
