“…it really is interesting how much emphasis the majority, and Justice Thomas’s concurrence, put on the racist roots of gun control.”

June 28, 2010

Glenn Reynolds, writing about today’s SCOTUS “yes, the Second Amendment really does mean people get to have guns” ruling, with a little added snark:

And isn’t it interesting that this is happening on the same day the Senate’s last Klansman went to his reward?

I’ve never considered gun control from the racial angle, really. Reynolds links to two papers on the subject (here and here), which I’ll read later if I get the chance. The decision itself, too. If I get the chance.

If I don’t get the chance, I’ll still blog about it. So there.

Via Memeorandum.

UPDATE - they didn’t even decide anything?

…in more than 200 pages of opinions, the court did not even decide the constitutionality of the two gun control laws that were at issue in the case, from Chicago and Oak Park, Ill. The justices returned the case to the lower courts to decide whether those exceptionally strict laws, which effectively banned the private possession of handguns, can be reconciled with the Second Amendment.

Sheesh.
