Venezuela, still more communist than America

Here’s a story I missed over the weekend:

CARACAS (Reuters) – Venezuela will nationalize a fleet of oil rigs belonging to U.S. company Helmerich and Payne, the latest takeover in a push to socialism as President Hugo Chavez struggles with lower oil output and a recession.

Eleven drilling rigs, all owned by the same Oklahoma company, have been idle for some months “following a dispute over pending payments.” So Venezuelan “president” Hugo Chavez took them.

Shouldn’t the U.S. government be…oh, I don’t know…doing something about this? Something other than gazing wistfully at Chavez’ brazenness?

One more thing: you gotta love how the Reuters reporter, Frank Jack Daniel (he has to be nicknamed “Whiskey,” doesn’t he?) mentions the “push to socialism.” Now that’s misplaced editorializing I can get behind!
