Why is Glenn Beck so popular?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad he’s popular. I like Beck because he’s a strong small-government guy. This is my number one issue and if you’re on board with it then I’m happy to disagree with you on anything else.
I’m glad he’s popular and I’m glad he’s pushing the small government thing. Government in the United States is just too big and it’s gotten into way too many pies. Beck gets that and he talks about it all the time.
BUT…
While the message is good, the messenger isn’t. His TV show is unwatchable. Virtually incoherent. His radio show isn’t much better. I read one of his books and it was OK but nothing to scream about.
So how did he get so popular? Seriously, any ideas?
I have this problem from time to time. Ever heard of Wayne Allyn Root? He was the Libertarian Party’s VP candidate in 2008 so if you haven’t, don’t worry about it. But he wrote a book too and I loved it. I love the guy’s ideas. Still, he comes across like a late-night TV infomercial host. And ever heard his radio show? It’s awful.
I bet Beck and Root would like each other. I like both of them. The difference is Beck’s popular, Root ain’t. The similarity is twofold: I like both of them, and they’re both lousy as spokesmen.
Thoughts?

When you characterize his show as “unwatchable”, you remove yourself from the target audience.
I’m not a tremendous fan of his style, either, but lots of folks, e.g. my dad, think he’s spot on.
Generally, what Beck is spoon feeding seems historically and factually accurate.
Why is Beck popular? Because when all the rest of the spineless twits are shrinking away after the Left called them bad names, Beck keeps standing up and telling them to stuff it. Limbaugh does the same thing, which is why he’s got millions of viewers. They’re two people who don’t back down, unlike damn near every Republican in Congress who can’t seem to defend the ideals they claim to stand for.
Fair enough, but ‘the Left’ aren’t tossing bad names at you or me, are they? Beck had to get popular (and famous) in order to draw the attention and the ire in the first place. Was his show better in the past?
I just googled, “why is glenn beck popular” and this conversation popped up. I think he is a total twit. His blathering that I’ve forced myself to watch are incoherent and specious.
I’m a big Wall Builders fan and his episode on women in American History was awesome except for Glenn’s condescending and inappropriate comments towards his female audience. I couldn’t finish watching because Glenn Beck melts this conservative’s brain!
I got tired of being called racist if I didn’t support a progressive/liberal candidate. I got tired of being called intolerant if I didn’t support a progressive/liberal cause. I got tired of being called unpatriotic if I didn’t agree with progressive/liberal policies. I got tired of being called hateful if I voiced opposition to my government. And obviously I’m not alone. At one time we felt we had no voice for fear of being labeled ‘racist’, ‘intolerant’, ‘unpatriotic’, and ‘hateful’. Glenn Beck is popular because he sees the frustration of many Americans and gives us a voice, much the same way Rush Limbaugh does.
We’re no longer afraid of being labeled by liberals any longer. Sticks and stones. These labels have no detrimental tinge for us any longer, and their tactics will no longer work.
