Since I got an answer to my last WordPress question so quickly…
August 28, 2010
…I can’t seem to comment on other WordPress blogs unless I log out of WordPress myself and leave my url blank in the comment form. Unless I do those things, my comment simply doesn’t show up. Obi’s Sister is having a similar problem.
Anybody else?

Pretty much the same problem for the last 2 weeks or so. I have to use my Roadrunner email address, can’t use my @thepiratescove.us one, and can’t have my website, at least in WP blogs. Works OK with mu.nu sites (like Ace of Spades) and the few remaining Moveable Type.
Even have some issues with some sites where you have to be registered, like Blogs for Victory. Though, works at Hot Air and Michelle Malkin. Though, I do have my RR email on those sites, with my Pirate’s Cove url. Weird.
I’ve had problems with trackbacks for about 8 months or so, always ending up in spam. Humorously, trackbacks to my own posts end up in the spam file :) Actually, I guess that isn’t so humorous.
I wonder if lots of cross-posting could cause the problem?
Askismet-enabled blogs may have an anti-amphibian bias.
As long as you’re marking your own trackbacks/comments as “not spam” on your own blog, those should go into the Akismet database to get picked up as good comments on other blogs. However, it could be that the other blogs are running an updated version of Akismet (although, it SHOULDN’T matter), and not correctly getting updated spam data.
Although I think Akismet is still the best blogging platform spam filter out, there are obvious issues with trackbacks since they’re trying to crack down on trackback spam. I personally don’t have any ongoing issues (on a blog that gets 20-30 comments from a non-regular audience daily), but have seen plenty of blogs that do. Just one of those things, I suppose.
One technique that some folks use with some success is having a second blog, and posting comments there using the same identical contact info (name, email, web address), and when it gets picked up, mark as “not spam”. Repeat several times of the course of a couple of weeks to see if Akismet finally learns it.
Other than that, there simply aren’t many other widely-supported options, unless you turn off Akismet and implement a captcha plugin. Even then, your’re not stopping human-posted spam.
Not me
Or maybeI am since the link seems to be missing from my name
I left a post in WP support, but haven’t heard back anything yet.
Doug – I’ve left several comments over at your place, with the same results. They just vanish.
Sorry about that Obi let me look at it
I’ve had comments get lost at a few places lately. Just thought they got caught in spam and would be picked up later or they found a wormhole to comment oblivion. Glad you picked up on the problem.
The Troglopundit: Smarter than your average unfrozen caveman.
Will be interested to see if WP comes up with a solution.
BTW, I run akismet and captcha.
And there was great rejoicing. Yea.
WP responded to my support request, asking me to post some test comments to one of their blogs. Hopefully they can capture what is going wrong and fix it.
I’ll keep you posted.
