Funny, I don’t remember sending Paul Krugman any letters.
I went through my mail today, and got the usual batch of letters declaring that I’m wrong about everything, and that we should do the opposite of anything I say.
I’ve thought that several times, but I’ve never written to him directly. Could he be a mind reader? Or maybe he’s reading The Trog?
Krugman goes on to list a number of bad economic predictions which, he claims, right-leaning pundits and media outlets made. Let’s give him the benefit of the doubt that those outlets did, in fact, make those predictions, and that he isn’t interpreting things in his own special way.
The fact remains: Krugman’s philosophy leads to poverty. Leaning on the individual; on the free market; on the incentives of profit and private property: this is what made America prosperous in the first place. It doesn’t solve every problem. It doesn’t make everyone rich beyond their dreams. But it’s the best chance everyone has to achieve that.
Let Europe follow Krugman’s advice. Let’s do the opposite. And: hi, Paul!
