Whaddaya think? Too many syllables?

The word is: “Pterovalanche.” My first reaction was: too many syllables.

“Pterolanche.” Or: “Dactylanche.” Better? Maybe. Although now that I’ve said that, “Pterovalanche” does have a nice ebb and flow. Kind of like a long eastern European name. Just put all the stress on the “o.” Pter-O-valanche.
