Election over: let the meme-floating…begin!
Alternate Title: somebody send Jeremy Jacobs the link to TrogloPundit, please. Jacobs wrote the story underneath this headline:
Another GOP Civil War Brewing In 2012
The story:
The GOP faces a wide playing field in 2012, as 21 (U.S. Senate) Democrats and two independents who caucus with Democrats are up for re-election. With only 10 Republican held seats up, that gives Republicans ample opportunity to win the seats necessary to gain a majority.
But there are early signs that the same intra-party feuds that limited huge pickups in the Senate in 2010 are re-emerging for 2012. Members who would be likely locks for re-election – Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar (R) and Maine Sen. Olympia Snowe (R) — could well face serious primary challenges from Tea Party candidates. And Democratic members who look vulnerable – like Montana’s Jon Tester – could benefit from ideologically divided Republican fields.
Indeed, those things could happen. Probably will. And Democrats will face some of the same problems, as their members try to sort out (to use a kind euphemism) whether their problem was too much liberalism, or not enough, much like Republicans did after 2008.
It was a “GOP Civil War” then, too, if you’ll recall.
Of course, with such enormous and wide-ranging gains for the GOP this year, it won’t be at all strange to see Democrats take back a few seats. A net gain for their party. Such large majorities, you see, mean that Republicans are sitting in seats normally held by Democrats.
The spin then will be: “GOP Extremism Costs Them Seats.”
