If this ever happens to my wife or daughter, I’m going to need some bail money. *Updated*
And a lawyer, too. Cara Ellison, with a personal anecdote of the sort that is becoming far too common:
…one afternoon while I was still standing at the x-ray machines while my carry-on went through the scanner, a female agent told me I had been selected for secondary screening. I said fine. I thought she would take me into a private area or something, but no. Without blinking an eye she reached over, pulled up my shirt, and began to feel under my bra. I was in front of everyone, and I yelled at her stop. I was completely embarrassed and feeling completely helpless. I pulled away and a big male agent came over and said, “Do you want me to hold her still?”
There’s going to be a fight. How can there not be? And the police will come, and I will be arrested. And then I sue everybody, and maybe I lose. If so, I lose loudly. There will be no compromise. There will be no settlement. I will not shut up. Jail, yes. Submission, no.
How can anybody just let this kind of thing happen?
UPDATE - I wish I hadn’t written “There’s going to be a fight.” I don’t want to physically attack anyone, particularly somebody who is simply trying to do a job the best they can; the way they’ve been trained; that they themselves may not be real happy about.
My point was: I, as a husband and father, will not stand aside and watch that happen to my wife or daughter. Will. Not. I won’t allow it, and if that means jail time, then I’ll finally put that tip jar up here on The Trog.
UPDATE II – Linked at The Linkiest and Backyard Conservative.
UPDATE III - I’m standing by what I said in this post, including the part where I backed off something I said in this post.

Why did you walk back the line, “There’s going to be a fight”?
Sorry to break it to you, but the threat of physical violence rules the world, and it is the only thing some people understand and, justifiably, fear. It is that threat of violence that prevents violence. If the US fought wars in the manner we did years ago, there would be less countries challenging us today, as other countries would fear the ravaging that their countries and citizens would be subjected to. And so, there would be less war. If more people accepted that there would be a punch in the mouth for harassing women or improperly touching children, society would be far more civil, and the world would be a safer place. Lessons were once learned on the schoolyard – instead of “anti-bullying” laws in schools there was merely a kid who learned a life lesson of how to stand up for himself and another kid that learned a life lesson that “bullying” others can get you a bloody nose. Both were better for it. Screw this BS conflict-resolution nonsense, as reality dictates the only people willing to sincerely “negotiate” are those who are in fear; those that feel there is no threat have no reason to give up any of their wants or desires, no matter how ridiculous their wants or desires may be.
If someone holding your wife so someone else can fondle her breasts doesn’t warrant a fight, exactly what does?
Son of Bob, there are alternatives to fighting. Besides, while I won’t try to predict what I might do in the heat of the moment, my goal will be to win, not just to vent my spleen.
As a liberal and supporter of human rights, I am appalled at the notion of my wife or daughter being groped. I, too, do not think your retraction was necessary. Violence solves all problems. If it doesn’t solve yours, you haven’t used enough. “Doing their job” doesn’t work for me, either, as those were the claims of most SS troopers in WWII. If your job requires you to be wrong, quit. Otherwise, face the music of obeying orders. Those who would trade their liberty for safety deserve neither.
I agree with Plumbob – ‘I was just following orders’ didn’t fly at Nuremburg, it ought not fly here, either.
And if you do happen to need bail money, I’ll be sure to contribute.
“Violence solves all problems. If it doesn’t solve yours, you haven’t used enough.”
What are you, radical Muslim?
Watcher, thanks. The thing is, in pre-WWII Germany, the people didn’t have the ability to change the orders. We do.
I think there’s a ton of people out there that would take action in that circumstance. Add me to that list.
I know I am stretching the analogy, but I am amazed that the TSA can find hundreds of sadist/pervert types that can follow their orders and grope and demean their fellow citiziens because Janet incompetano has told them to.
Then I remember that there wasn’t a shortage of guards at the concentration camps either. Chairman Mao and Pol Pot didn’t have trouble hiring either.
The death of liberty begins with a simple feel!
You should have stuck with, “There is going to be a fight.’because that is exactly what there should be.
Just doing theirs jobs? Seriously? My brother made this point — a sexual assualt only counts “if it’s good for you.” If the rapist didn’t enjoy it — no harm done, right? No one had a good time!
These people are monsters. Normal, sane, moral people would not do that to another person “under orders.” They wouldn’t fondle people’s breasts, reach into their panties, or strip down 7 year olds. F%^&&$# “they’re just doing their jobs.” Whores do it for money, not love.
Lance,
We do not have the power to change TSA’s rules. TSA has been marching to more invasive procedures since it was created.
Looks like the American people are going to be needing a “legal defense fund” for bailout $ and lawsuit $ to deal with this octopus.
