“You know what the snooze button is?”
“The snooze button is the end of civilization as we know it. The snooze button means: when the alarm goes off, I’m not getting up.”
I heard a comedian say that once. Jerry Seinfeld, I think.
But here’s the thing: not only do I know that I’m not getting up when the alarm goes off because of the snooze alarm, I know that I have to account for the snooze alarm when I plan my wake-up time the night before.
I know I’m going to use the snooze alarm, see? Therefore, I set my alarm to go off a little earlier to compensate. I’m still getting up right around the same time, give or take a couple of minutes. It’s just that I’m fighting the alarm clock a little more consistently – or, perhaps, just differently – before I do.
The question is: what does this mean? Is it the end of society as we know it? Or is it proof of man’s unlimited ability to adapt?
