NFL hopeful breaks NFL combine bench press record

February 28, 2011

One of the tests NFL hopefuls do at the combine is the bench press – pressing 225 pounds as many times as they can. Oregon State’s Stephen Paea – let’s just say he probably never had trouble opening a jar:

By the time Paea was done, he had set a new scouting combine record, raising the 225-pound barbell 49 times and breaking the old record of 45.

I wonder if I could even do one of those. Somehow I think just getting the bar off the rack would throw both my shoulders out.

I also wonder what the standard for a complete rep is at the combines. It doesn’t look like he’s fully extending, said the pale, soft-fingered blogger without even a touch of jealous cattiness.

    Wait until you get older.

Just getting ON to that contraption might be your final movement.
