And you thought the days of embracing your new Wisconsin overlords was over.

March 30, 2011

I admit, things looked a little bleak.

After dominating the football world; and then rising to dominance in the political world, it looked as though Wisconsin’s overlording days might be over. Oh, sure, a Sweet Sixteen berth for Marquette was pretty good. They weren’t supposed to get out of the first round. And the Badgers – well, they were supposed to get to the Sweet Sixteen and maybe even further.

But that’s as far as either team went. Wisconsin was unrepresented as the college hoops world moved toward a new NCAA champion.

Or…were we?

Being a Wisconsin Badger fan I naturally began rooting for Butler to win the NCAA Basketball Championship since they beat Wisconsin. But I just recently found out that VCU coach Shaka Smart was born in Madison and graduated from Oregon (WI) High School.

Basketball nets look good on you, man.

VCU is only the third 11-seeded team to reach the Final Four in NCAA history. Neither of the previous two made it to the Finals (or so I heard on the radio), and naturally VCU will be an underdog heading into Saturday’s matchup against Butler.

Still, I think we can count this. Have you embraced your new Wisconsin overlords yet? Or are you waiting to see how the food in the re-education camps will be?

Hat tip Fishersville Mike. Go Rams!
