What about “SEAL Team 7?” Has anybody trademarded that yet?
Sometimes good business is just recognizing the opportunities you find, even if they’re really, really strange:
Disney has filed an application to trademark the name of the U.S. commando unit credited with dispatching Osama bin Laden.
Okay, so that’s weird, and maybe a little inappropriate. Still, awesome business move. I hope they cast Gerard Butler in the movie!
They are making a movie, right? Why else would they do this?
…Disney listed ideas such as Christmas tree ornaments, video games and snow globes as possible uses for the name.
Oh. Dear. Snow globes. Because nothing says Navy SEAL like a pointlessly cute piece of glass!
That’s either a really bad odd business decision following a really good odd business decision, or a blatant and transparent attempt at corporate misdirection.
And one more thing:
The Sentinel said there actually is precedent for a civilian company obtaining the trademark rights to a Navy SEAL Team. A company called NovaLogic had the rights to SEAL Team 6 previously but abandoned it in 2006.
Huh. I wonder who made that decision, and how long he/she will continue working for NovaLogic now?
