Drugs: first we tax them; then we regulate them; then we tax them some more…
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (a.k.a. my next employer) opines on the Drug War:
Now that the Global Commission on Drug Policy has declared that America has lost the war on drugs, it’s time to develop new strategies, ones that treat drug addiction as a health problem, not a criminal problem.
Okay, so that there sentence set my liberal touchy-feely can’t-we-all-just-get-along sensors off like it was Great-Grandma trying to sneak an extra bottle of Metamucil past the TSA.
If only we cared more. If only we were treating the root problems. And, also, give us more money for more social programs.
Still, can’t say they’re wrong. Maybe treating drugs like a health problem really is the answer. Just look what it did to cigarettes.
