Are you sure she had the wrong John Wayne?
In Waterloo, Iowa, Michelle Bachmann told reporters that she’s got that good ol’ John Wayne spirit.
Rep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo’s own John Wayne.
The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo’s John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.
Well hang on, now: are you sure she mixed them up? Are you sure she didn’t mean John Wayne Gacy?
Because, y’know, maybe we’d better start doing what she tells us.
Note: the story goes on to say that John Wayne’s parents did, in fact, live in Waterloo briefly. Hey, Wisconsin native Danica Patrick only lived in Wisconsin briefly, too. Hasn’t stopped me.
Unrelated John Wayne note: you know what the problem with John Wayne’s movies is? Not enough daily-life situations where it’s appropriate to say “pretty bold talk for a one-eyed fat man.”

Why can’t people just admit John Wayne was from California? He left Iowa when he was three years old. What impact did Iowa have on him? None.
He was a football player at the University of Southern California and a Hollywood movie star. He was as Californian as you can get. Who cares where he was born and lived until he was three?
