Speaking of Tea Party libertarians trying to force others to live their lives however they choose…

August 2, 2011

Don Surber averts his eyes, fights down the gag reflex, and excerpts Matt Damon:

“It’s criminal that like, you know, so little is asked of people who are getting so much, I mean, I don’t mind paying more. I really don’t mind paying more taxes. I’d rather pay for taxes than cut like ‘Reading is Fundamental’ or ‘Head Start’ or some of these programs that are really helping kids. I mean, why not? This is the greatest country in the world. Is it that much worse if you pay 6 percent more in taxes? Give me a break.”

Good thing you’re so pretty, Matt.

Surber, being helpful, tries to instruct Damon on how to voluntarily give the government more. Stick it to those libertarian Tea Party radicals, Matt, forcing their heartless individual freedoms down everyone’s throats!

Surber’s tactic may be the most humane way to go. One does not want to confuse a pretty Hollywood starlet like Damon. Just give your money to the nice government, Matt. They know how to handle it.

Still, if “giving more” is Damon’s goal, why not give it directly to whatever or whomever you want to support?

You like Head Start? Give them money directly. Or purchase something for them. A reading program. A series of educational yet entertaining videos. Buy some land, build a playground on it, and donate it to the city. Buy a building and convert it into a shelter for homeless families. Give it a trust fund for future expenses and upkeep.

Cut out the middle man, Matt!

Remember: if you give your money to the government, it gets frittered while passing through the multiple layers of bureaucracy – and multiple layers of bureaucrats, all of whom get paid to pass your money along!

Plus, the government spends money on stuff you don’t like. Bad things like war, and oil, and aid to Israel, and salaries for right-wing Tea Party congressmen!

Granted, making decisions about your own money runs counter to the anti-Tea Party credo: don’t make us live our lives however we choose! Damon, being committed and loyal to his government-is-good philosophy, may not want the responsibility.

So. Matt. Babe. Tell you what. I’ll make the decisions for you. You give me some basic parameters, and I’ll make sure your money is directed however you want. To the programs you want.

We’ll help people, Matt. You and me.

And I guarantee my skim will be less than the government’s.
