Why can’t Obama blame Republicans for the economy?
This Investors Business Daily editorial wants President Obama to stop casting blame for the economy:
Obama can’t have it both ways. He can’t blame Republicans when they’re in power, and then keep blaming Republicans when he’s in power. At some point, he’s got to take responsibility for the jobless recovery — the first since WWII with no gain in wages and salaries in the first eight quarters after a recession’s end. He’s got to take ownership for the failure of his own ideas and leadership.
I agree that President Obama should take some responsibility, and that he should stop blaming Republicans, and President Bush, and bad luck for the economy.
But I don’t agree that he “can’t” do those things. In fact, I’m quite interested to see how the voters respond in 2012 if “blaming Republicans” continues to be Obama’s tactic of choice.
President Obama can go right on blaming Republicans, if that’s what he wants to do. Come next November, we’ll see if the voters believed him.
P.S. You know what would be really funny? If we had bad economic news one day – and the President blamed Republicans, Bush, luck, the DC quake, etc. – and then good economic news the next day, and the President took credit for his sound economic plan.
Hat tip Insty.
