Anti-Brewers bias at The Other McCain?
To recap: over the weekend, the Milwaukee Brewers swept the Chicago Cubs; won their league-leading 50th home game, opening a 10.5-game lead over distant second place St. Louis; and starting pitcher Zack Greinke extended his home record to 10-0.
Wow, huh? That is really something, especially coming from a long-suffering fanbase in a relatively tiny market in Flyover, USA.
So, naturally, the baseball-related headlines over at The Other McCain this morning are: Texas won over LA, and the New York Yankees!
OMG, LeBron James is playing in an exhibition game!
Go ahead. See for yourself. Priorities!
Now, look: I’m not saying that Wombat Socho – he who does most of TOM’s dirty work – is somehow biased against Wisconsin and/or the Midwest and/or Flyover Country. I’m not saying that he’s just trying to fit in amongst a corporate atmosphere of elitism and anti-heartland bias. I’m not saying that the kneejerk adulation of mainstream media outlets that cover bigger cities and coastal sports teams has crept, fungus-like, into the Just-The-Way-We-Do-Things-Around-Here over at The Other McCain.
I’m not saying those things. I’m implying them. There’s a difference.
Listen up, people. Since Governor Scott Walker won office, the Packers have won the Superbowl; the Wisconsin Badgers have won the Big Ten title; both Wisconsin and Marquette went to the Sweet Sixteen; and now the Brewers are poised for the playoffs, with an outside chance of winning home field advantage all the way through.
We wear foam cheese on our heads, and we like it that way. And if you know what’s good for you, you will, too.

It is pretty bad when a blogger who is originally from Alabama goes elitist and thinks Badgers are hillbillies and hicks! No cheese for you… with your illegal alien Corona cerveza!
I love Wisconsin a a state, but as a Twins fan from 1990-2007, I am only treating the Brewers with the contempt they deserve. ;)
I don’t think Stacy’s even aware of baseball unless he’s actually at the game.
What happened in 2007?
That’s the year I moved to Washington and became a full-time Nationals fan. Hard to care so much about the Twins when I can’t hear John Gordon’s dulcet tones on the radio, and even harder when they’re on track to finish with a record reminiscent of 1990. :(
