Well, at least we don’t have to worry about the Obama Bus carbon footprint

August 30, 2011

It can’t hurt the environment if you never start the engine:

Apparently President Obama only rode the buses for a couple of miles at a time, spending the rest of the time flying from community to community in Air Force One. What’s more, the buses were flown from stop to stop as well. It’s normal practice for the President’s entire motorcade to be loaded up on cargo planes and flown from destination to destination. The buses were just a new part of that motorcade.

So we spent how much on these uber-mongo Kryptonian-proof cat-couldn’t-scratch-it buses? So the President could still just fly between stops?

Yes, I get that the buses will still serve other purposes, but. Would we have bought the buses if not for President Obama’s “bus tour?”

On the other hand, what’s the carbon emission difference between flying the planes 250 miles and driving the buses 250 miles? Less? Or negligible? What’s the difference between driving the bus 25 miles and driving one of his usual Sherman Tank SUVs 25 miles?

Is this helping save the Earth?

Upside: at least he got to attend more campaign official business stops before his vacation.
