The Buffett Tax? Didn’t they learn their lesson with the tanning-bed tax?

September 19, 2011

Should I make the obvious joke? Ha! Of course I should!

Will the “Buffett tax” be levied by the plate? Or will it be levied by the customer? You know that restaurants will just start using bigger plates, if it’s the former, and customers will just load up their first time through, if the latter.

Those are called unintended consequences.

But, no, they don’t mean buffet – my beloved all-you-can-eatness is safe, thank you very much. They mean Buffett, as in Warren Buffett, the really rich guy who thinks really rich people like him should be taxed more for The Good of Humanity. Those rich people being completely incapable of spending their own money on good works and causes on their own. Nope. Gotta run it through the bureaucracy first, or…or it doesn’t count or something.

Tell you what: there’s one way they can get the coveted TrogloEndorsement for such a thing as a Buffett Tax. Make it a tax only on people named Buffett who want higher taxes. In that case, I’m totally on board.

Hat tip Tax Prof and Hot Air.
