“He does not get bored throwing completions and that’s a great attribute to have as a quarterback.”

October 27, 2011

Indeed. “Not bored with completions” is, I’m fairly sure, near the top of the “best quarterback attributes” checklist pro coaches like to use.

In fact, I’m pretty sure that’s what’s wrong with Jay Cutler. He’s not a bad quarterback. It’s just he gets bored throwing good passes and scoring touchdowns. He’s special, see, and he needs more intellectual stimulation than he can get from monotonously leading his team down the field to win the game.

But not Aaron Rodgers. He’s perfectly satisfied throwing the same damned completions, over and over and over again.

“Relax, all right? Don’t try to strike everybody out. Strikeouts are boring! Besides that, they’re fascist. Throw some ground balls – it’s more democratic.”

Name that movie.
