A Bill Keller prediction: President Obama won’t run for a second term!

November 14, 2011

Okay, that’s not exactly true. Okay, it’s not true at all. Not only did he not predict that, he didn’t even imply it. But you can certainly see why I might have inferred it:

Election Day is nearly a year off and the first primaries aren’t until January, but I’m ready to skip ahead to the main event. The last serious hope of the Tea Partiers, Rick Perry, and their last not-so-serious hope, Herman Cain, are in campaign death spirals. Unless God has a cruel sense of humor, Newt Gingrich will pass like a tantrum. That leaves us with a general election between two serious and certifiably sane candidates.

One of those candidates, Keller says, is Mitt Romney. The other…if I hadn’t gone ahead and read the next couple of paragraphs, I’d have thought he was talking about Hillary Clinton.

But, no, he’s talking about Barack Obama. Which…um, okay. I guess I can’t argue. At least, I don’t see any obvious signs of insanity (which means he’s doing it to us on purpose), and he certainly looks serious.

Have you seen his “concentrating hard” face when he’s lining up a putt? Very serious.

Memeorandum.
