Okay, fine, let’s talk about the “millionaires want to pay higher taxes” thing again.

November 17, 2011

Oh, those selfless, selfless millionaires, begging Congress to raise their taxes:

Two dozen wealthy members of the group Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength are targeting members of the deficit “supercommittee” to increase their taxes.

Oh, no, wait: they’re not asking to have their taxes raised. If they want to pay more taxes, they have the option of simply paying more. They could overpay and then just not request a refund. Or they could write an extra check to the U.S. Treasury.

They want everyone - at least in their tax bracket – to pay more in taxes. In other words: they want to force others to pay more.

It makes an interesting contrast – although that’s not quite the right word – with the OWS mobs. Early on, at least, the OWS “protests” revolved around college debt. Help us with our college debts! Pay off our college debts!

We have a problem – solve it! Somebody solve our problem!

And now here come a couple dozen millionaires – members of the 1% – saying the same thing. We’ve got a problem! Somebody solve it!

We’ll give those millionaires credit, at least, for wanting to give things away, even if they can’t figure out how to do it themselves. The OWS crowd wants things given to them.

But there’s another difference, too: these millionaires are, one would assume, doers. Go-getters. Self starters, and high achievers. Not normally the sorts of people who look for others to solve their problems.

And, yet, here they are, demanding that the government Do Something!

The OWS rabble, at least, are obviously incompetent goofballs. Nobody expects them to solve their own problems. Nobody really thinks they’re capable of it.
