Yes, I know, you all hate it when I do this stuff. But I can’t help it. I’m about to defend President Obama.
Or… maybe not defend him so much as decline to join an attack.
Here’s the story: while speaking at a high school in Ohio, the Great Orator said something insipid and cliché, and the audience laughed:
Obama said, “You inspire me.”
And you know how the members of that crowd in the most Democratic district of Ohio responded to that campaigning Democratic president’s professed sincerity this time?
They laughed at him.
But here’s the thing: I’m not entirely sure that’s what happened. Here, watch for yourself:
Sorry about the Ron Paul ad at the end, there.
What that looks like to me is: somebody off to the side said something, and that’s what everybody laughed at. But I’m not sure about that either, since you can’t hear anything until Obama says “okay.”
Could also be that everybody’s laughing because Obama paused for applause but didn’t get any. Or, sure, could be that his “you inspire me” pabulum “inspired” a mass eye-roll, which in turn “inspired” mocking laughter.
For the record, that’s the one I’d prefer. But, y’know, I watched the video, and it’s just not clear.
Via Althouse, and Insty, and of course Memeorandum.
