How Common Is Your Birthday?
My birthday isn’t common. It’s popular.
A friend posted an interesting data table on my Facebook wall yesterday, which was my birthday. The data listed each day of the year with a ranking for how many babies were born on each date from 1973 to 1999. Some interesting trends are evident in the data.
Here’s the chart:
You can look up exactly how common your birthday is at this link, where they also find it necessary to tell us, without caveat, that February 29 is the least common of all.
Things warm up as the weather gets colder, looks like. I wonder how it’d look broken out by geography? How do births in Hawaii and Florida compare to Wisconsin and Maine?
Interesting how births fall in the 5-6 days surrounding Christmas. Willpower, I guess.

It’s seems odd that the big holidays: Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Independance Day have conspicuously low birth rates. Do women hold holiday babies in till afterwards, or do they push ‘em out early?
