Isn’t this…I dunno, blasphemous or something?

July 13, 2012

I mean, really:

If you thought Boise State’s field was obnoxious, a small college in Belleville, Ill., is putting the Smurf turf to shame.

The University of Lindenwood-Belleville will have it’s first football season this fall and, in an effort to make it unforgettable, the university decided to design an original field striped red and gray to represent the school’s colors.

Betcha this was some kind of committee decision:

Dear God. That is ugly.

I blame Boise St. First they go with that Smurf-blue field, then they become annual contenders. Now everybody wants to get in on the act.

Me, I’m a traditionalist when it comes to football field colors. Grass green. That’s how it should be. Except that the Green Bay Packers should color the yard lines gold instead of white, except during hunting season when they should be blaze orange. The lines. Only the lines. Under no circumstances should the grass ever be colored that way.

That red and white field is going to last right up until the day a major donor gets a migraine from the retinal images burned into his eyes.

When a Boise St. home game is on TV I can’t watch it because of that stupid blue field. Now here comes another team I won’t be watching when they play at home but it’s not like they would be on TV anyway.
