I sure hope Ma Ryan is ready for this.
So Romney/Ryan – or, as I like to call them, Ryan/Romney – were on 60 Minutes last night, and Ed Morrissey is crying foul over something that got left on the edit room floor:
Ryan added, “My mom is a Medicare senior in Florida. Our point is we need to preserve their benefits, because government made promises to them that they’ve organized their retirements around. In order to make sure we can do that, you must reform it for those of us who are younger. And we think these reforms are good reforms. That have bipartisan origins. They started from the Clinton commission in the late ’90s.”
That’s an important point. Every serious plan to reform entitlements…well, okay, both of them – Bush’s and Ryan’s – has left current and soon-to-be seniors exempt from the changes.
But don’t expect the MSM to let us know that, which is exactly Ed’s point. Ed writes:
Ryan’s plan doesn’t affect those already eligible for Medicare. In fact, one of the conservative criticisms of the plan was that he didn’t give current Medicare recipients the option to choose a private-insurance plan, as younger Americans will get once they become eligible. That’s a pretty newsworthy detail, no?
But the unfairness of MSM coverage, especially when it comes to such an easily pro-Obama bit of demagoguery, isn’t what concerns me. What concerns me is: Ryan brought up his Mom.
Does anybody doubt that certain elements of the Left are, right this moment, digging for dirt on Ma Ryan?
