Democrats pushing racial ID cards?
I’ve only got one word for ths: Wheeeeee!
The story: Native American groups are still pressuring Massachusetts Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren over her previous claims to Indian heritage.
The embarrassment Democrats must feel over the story – especially since it’s still actively ongoing even in Charlotte, during their national convention – is fun enough, but this is the part that really caught my eye:
Karen, also an Apache from New Mexico, said she and other Indians carry an ID card as proof of their heritage, and believes every person claiming American Indian heritage should do the same.
Requiring an ID is – as we are continually told – racist. At least, it is when Republicans want it. So is it still racist when Democrats demand that people carry racial IDs?
And what if other racial groups began to do this? And more importantly: what will all the poor, elderly, and disabled racial-identity-members do? The ones who can’t afford the (free) IDs or who can’t get across town to get one?
Will those people then be, somehow, race-less? People without an ethnicity? Will Paddy O’Toole still be welcome at the pub on St. Patrick’s Day?
And if people who can’t get racial IDs are, in fact, race-less, then is it still racist to require ID at the polls?
