Does the consensus still say that embryonic stem cells are the only way forward?

Or maybe I should only call them the “best” way forward. Wasn’t that the consensus, though? Once? That our best possible path to life-saving new medical treatments was embryonic stem cells?

They’re only doing things like windpipes right now, but more complex organs could be right around the corner, and no embryos destroyed.
We still have that little problem of thousands upon thousands of frozen, unused (and not gonna be used) embryos out there – the leftovers of modern fertilization treatments. My solution: invent better fertilization treatments! I’d be willing to allow the gummint to spend more money on that.
