Steve Martin promotes Bob Kerrey, toddler-style home crafts, subtle reverse-endorsements?

This is either the strangest celebrity endorsement ever, or the cleverest:

You have to watch through to the end, which isn’t all that hard. Notice the last couple of hand signs. First:

“Please consider Bob Kerrey as a wise and thoughtful choice as your senator from Nebraska.”

And then:

“Also, please consider me as your home crafts authority.”

Is it just me, or is that another way of saying “Dear God, why would you ever consider Bob Kerrey?”

UPDATE – the newest polling info I could find has Deb Fischer leading Bob Kerrey by double digits in Nebraska. That’s well over a month old, though.

Does Steve Martin live in Nebraska? I thought he lived in California.
