Acting conservative – the new Hollywood tabloidism?

October 30, 2012

Rob Lowe hasn’t – that I know of – endorsed or expressed support for any Republican candidate or conservative position. But:

On Monday evening, actor Rob Lowe tuned in to Fox News to watch Shepard Smith’s coverage of Sandy after the storm made landfall. While Shep Smith has critics on both sides of the aisle, it was the oh-so-smart and totally tolerant “Faux News” haters who blasted Lowe for daring to flip the channel to Fox.

As Hollywood B-listers like Stacey Dash, and the internet-famous like Kim Stafford have learned, public outing as a Republican/conservative, even when you aren’t, brings the anti-love from the Left. And then it brings support and thanks from the Right. People begin arguing. About you. If they’re arguing about you, then they’re talking about you. And if people are talking about you, you’re on people’s minds.

Which, as we all know, is all the Lindsay Lohans and Britney Spears’ of the world want.

Drunk and disorderly? Rehab? 3-hour marriages and nasty love triangles? Pfft. That’s so last decade.

Support a Republican or conservative – or just appear that you might be doing so. That’s the new road to tabloid fame.
